defined by its diversity, ‘walltopia climbing hall’ is an environmentally and financially sustainable project located in sofia, bulgaria. proposed by MARS architects, the center integrates recreational facilities with the head offices of walltopia, a company specializing in the production of climbing equipment.

the scheme shown in context
compact and efficient spatial organization sees a central spine traverse the site, connecting the scheme’s various programs. climbing structures are incorporated throughout the design, submerging walltopia’s staff in the product they are selling. the outer skin of the building is constructed to function as an external climbing surface – a perforated aluminum panel system fitted with grips. internally, four vast scalable atria offer walls of varying heights and complexities.

the roof of the project serves as external recreation space
considering the context of the project, MARS architects shaped the large front façade to block sound from the passing street, while the slope of the roof prevents an external activity park from becoming too shaded by the mass of the building.
